We are a non profit group and all expenses are paid from our own pockets and through the generosity of donations. All donations, large or small, are appreciated beyond measure.
For this team to continue to strive to be the best, we must request the help of the community. The training material and equipment that are required is expensive. All funding for the team has come from our volunteers’ pockets and the generosity of the community.
We are now in need of updated radios and water search and training equipment. To perform as efficiently as possible in the field it is essential that we have reliable and powerful communication equipment. Communicating with teams in the field can be difficult at times and it is imperative that we are able to maintain a consistent and dependable link with our teams in the field. After aiding with the massive search effort on Kentucky Lake recently, our team realized the need for equipment to effectively perform water searches. A boat, motor, and trailer would be a great help for our team to be as useful on the water as we are on land. This would greatly expand the capabilities of our dogs by providing more opportunities to train for water recoveries. This equipment would also make our team a more valuable resource when a recovery is required and closure is desperately needed.
All these things we are requesting will only make us a more efficient and versatile search team, being able to provide a wider range of search skills and tactics to help bring a loved one home. All donations, no matter how small, will help us reach this goal.
If you have a dog and are interested in possibly using it in search and rescue work, please talk to any of our members. We will help you evaluate your dog and its potential as a Search and Rescue Dog.
Even if you don’t have a dog, you can be of great help to our organization. In addition to handlers and their dogs, team members are needed to work as spotters in field support situations. A handler must give the tracking dog their undivided attention. At least one support person should accompany each dog/handler team. This individual maintains radio communications, notes situations and people encountered, and watches for potential problems (changing terrain, weather, etc.) In the event a team member is injured, a second or even third support member nearby can be a very valuable asset.
