9/24&25/2004 - Forensic Seminar in Chattanooga TN
Marshia, Julie, Jeri, and Kevin attended the forensic seminar sponsored by the Tennessee Search and Rescue Dog Association (TSARDA). The class was taught by Dr Murray Marks, Associate Professor of the Department of Anthropology, University of Tennessee. The lecture centered around Forensic Anthropology which is defined as "the application of the science of physical anthropology to the legal process. The identification of skeletal, badly decomposed, or otherwise unidentified human remains is important for both legal and humanitarian reasons. Forensic anthropologists apply standard scientific techniques developed in physical anthropology to identify human remains, and to assist in the detection of crime. Forensic anthropologists frequently work in conjunction with forensic pathologists, odontologists, and homicide investigators to identify a decedent, discover evidence of foul play, and/or the postmortem interval. In addition to assisting in locating and recovering suspicious remains, forensic anthropologists work to suggest the age, sex, ancestry, stature, and unique features of a decedent from the skeleton."

9/13/2004 - The SEMO District Fair Parade
The parade went really well. Jeri, Kevin, Marion, and Julie were there with Charlie, Duncan, and Duke. Jeri and her kids worked hard on the "float" and the kids managed to get some good donations. We all managed to get some good exercise trying to keep up with the float.
While we were waiting to get started we talked with the Lt. of the Civil Air Patrol. He was telling us that he just got back from search and rescue training with the Air Force. They covered searching with dogs but didn't have dogs on hand to train with. We gave him our email and our web address for possible future contact and possibly doing some training together. Sounds like it might be a good idea. We might learn from each other.
9/12/2004 - Water Search Training in Dover TN
Marshia, Jeri, Marion, Julie, and Kevin all went and took Maggie, Charlie, and Duke. The dogs performed very well. They said Duke almost came out of the boat when he caught scent and is ready to be certified in cadaver. Charlie and Maggie were alerting really well too. We also had a chance to see Doc Rita work her dog in the training exercises. A lot was learned that day.
